Iron Will Technologies, Inc. was on target to release their first product in time for Christmas 2009. Packaging, production, advertising, and testing were ramping up. Who was going to write the user manual? |
SOLUTION
A simple guide incorporated into the installation CD case makes it easy to get set up and running. A detailed manual is supplied as a PDF on the CD and online for enthusiasts to dive deeper.
BENEFITS
The digital manual lowered printing and shipping costs, critical for a start-up venture introducing their first product.
Product and software changes could be incorporated throughout the development cycle.
CLIENT PROFILE
With humble beginnings in a small apartment in Alberta, Canada, the PEREGRINE began as an idea for a product that would allow people to interact with games more quickly, and with greater focus and comfort by simply using their hand as the interface.

A lucky Novatek intructional designer / writer recently suited up for battle in Starcraft with the PEREGRINE glove input device. Besides being a great way to use the extra RAM in her new system, gameplay was a critical requirement in the development of a user manual for the product.
Iron Will was looking for a user manual that would cover the basic setup of their ground-breaking glove input device. They anticipated that most of their target audience, which consists of hard-core gamers, would probably not read a full, detailed manual, and they were a little concerned that certain important details might get missed by the user.
Novatek proposed a suite of options for Iron Will, including a fold-out installation guide, a digital manual on CD, and/or online, and even a game-style tutorial. |
