About

My mother, who was a technical writer, founded Novatek in 1989. She died in 2001, and I bought the business in 2003, when I was still a junior in college. We started with technical writing, extended into training and support systems, and have recently moved into providing complete outsourcing services in the area of what we named Active Knowledge. It encompasses all the needs of our clients to capture, create, and deploy knowledge in driving business success. There are 35 of us in the company now.

After buying Novatek, I chose to focus exclusively on health care, because medical instruments help humans live longer and better. I like that our clients feel the same way. Eli Lilly’s CEO, John Lechleiter, called this “the biomedical century,” in the Wall Street Journal recently. I think he’s right!

We want Novatek to be innovative, great, and amazing, so we try to live by something that Steve Jobs said in an interview with Fortune in 2008. It seems even more poignant now:

We don’t get a chance to do that many things, and every one should be really excellent. Because this is our life. Life is brief, and then you die…
